I am a strong believer in the benefits of combining chiropractic with various physical rehabilitation techniques. It is so important to remember that everything in the body is interconnected. For that reason, it is common to combine adjustments with physical rehabilitation techniques for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. Without the combination, the healing process becomes longer, requiring more frequent visits, which is exactly what we are trying to avoid. With interference to the body’s normal communication channels due to abnormal joint motion, injury, or the combination of both come the natural reaction of the body to stabilize itself. Stabilization occurs through adhesion formation in the muscles, muscle spasm, swelling, and decreased range of motion. Thus it becomes imperative to utilize adjustments with rehabilitation techniques to aid in the natural healing ability of the body and regain proper biomechanics. In turn, these tools allow us to help you feel better, recover faster and return to the activities you love as soon as possible.

Soft Tissue Mobilization

Soft tissue mobilization is a treatment of the soft tissue which includes the muscles, tendons, ligaments, bursae, and fascia. Joint misalignment and injury, whether traumatic or repeated microtraumas, can cause soft tissue changes and vice-versa. Therefore, many times it is necessary to perform soft tissue mobilization to ensure movement in the correct direction during the healing process. These techniques allow chiropractors to release scar and adhesion formation, relax trigger points, and stretch tight muscles. Here are some of the techniques used in this office:

  • Trigger Point Therapy
  • Muscle Release Technique
  • Instrument Assisted Technique
  • Cupping – both traditional & silicone combined with dynamic movements
  • Compression bands with and without movement

Corrective Exercises

Corrective exercises are taught to our patients with the intention of correcting imbalances throughout the body due to weak muscles and instability. Although we encourage all of our patients to workout or participate in physical activities regularly, these exercises are not designed to build up bulky and superficial muscle groups. Rather they strengthen the core and stabilizing muscles in various regions of the body. By strengthening these muscles, balance and joint stability is restored to the body helping to eliminate the need for continuous treatments, prevents further injury and re-injury.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy emits photon light energy that penetrates the skin and muscle, ligament and tendon tissues. There it works on the cellular level to stimulate increased cell growth and the spread of new cells in an area of tissue damage. In addition, it increases blood flow to the area of injured tissue. The end result is decreased healing time by as much as 50%. During healing it also decreases pain, decreases inflamation, decreases joint effusion and increases range of motion.

Laser therapy sessions can be purchased individually for $60 or in packages of 6 sessions for $300 or 12 sessions for $600

Kinesiotaping Methods

Kinesiotape is a versatile form of elastic tape that, when stretched beyond its normal length, creates a recoil, pulling the skin away from the fascia and muscles. The elasticity and recoil of the tape allow for the functional support of joints, reduction of inflammation, and the use of tape for the purposes of muscle retraining. The type of kinesiotape used in our office is Rocktape which has a much greater recoil than other brands, increasing the versatility of the tape. Today, athletes use Rocktape for all the above reasons, as well as to enhance functional movements within their specific sport or activity.

PNF Muscle Stretching

Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) muscle stretching is a form of stretching designed to maximize flexibility quickly and efficiently without damaging the muscle. It is often performed with a partner and involves a combination of passive stretching with isometric contractions that result in reaching new end ranges. PNF muscle stretching is thought to be one of the fastest and most effective ways to safely increase range of motion.
